Resignation is a documented notice, not an announcement
The decision to leave a job can be an emotional one, but the letter itself should stay calm, short and dated. A resignation letter is the core document for a written notice to the employer, the last working day and, ideally, a record of delivery/receipt. A verbal resignation, or a message sent only through a chat app, can be weak evidence.
This content is general information; topics like severance pay, notice pay, termination for just cause, or reinstatement depend on the specifics of the individual case. If in doubt, consult an employment-law professional. The points below aim to reduce common formatting mistakes when filling in the letter.
Essential elements the letter should contain
The letter should include your full name, Turkish ID number, position/department, the employer's legal name and a clear date. The intent to resign — "I request the termination of my employment contract / I am resigning" — must be unambiguous. Stating your last working day clarifies planning for both you and HR. You may keep operational notes such as remaining leave, equipment to hand back and email access in a separate checklist.
It's usually better to keep the letter short rather than draw it out "in anger." Accusatory language may be interpreted against you later, in references or possible disputes. If you believe you have grounds for termination for just cause, that claim and its evidence should be handled through a separate legal assessment — adding a long paragraph of claims to an ordinary resignation letter is not always the right strategy.
What does the notice period mean in practice?
In open-ended employment contracts, the notice periods that parties must observe before announcing termination are set out in the Labor Law. The periods vary by seniority. Leaving without observing the notice period can, if the conditions are met, trigger a dispute over notice pay. Conversely, the same periods apply when the employer terminates without cause.
Saying "I'm leaving as of today" when resigning is not always possible. Leaving earlier by mutual agreement with the employer (a mutual termination agreement) may be possible — in that case, the agreement should be in writing. Exceptional situations such as a probation period, a fixed-term contract, or termination for just cause produce different outcomes; a generic letter does not resolve these automatically.
Delivery and proof
If you deliver the letter with a wet-ink signature, ask for a stamped "received" copy. If sending by email, send it to the corporate address with a PDF attachment and request a read receipt; keep proof of delivery. A notary warning letter may be preferred in some cases. Documenting the handover of company equipment, meal cards and access cards with a handover/custody minutes document clears up the exit process.
After you leave, update your CV for new job applications. You can prepare an ATS-friendly résumé with the site's CV builder, and gather your resignation letter PDF and exit paperwork into a single archive using the PDF-merge tool.

The site's resignation letter template lets you produce a quick text by filling in your identity, workplace and departure date fields. Review the text for your own situation — especially, don't assume your notice period, remaining leave and severance expectations; check them.
Summary checklist: write the date, state your intent clearly, clarify the last day, get proof of delivery, close out any equipment custody, and get expert advice if needed on your legal rights. A well-organized exit protects both you and the employer from later surprises.
