What does a good CV actually prove?
A CV's job isn't to portray you as "an interesting person" — it's to present enough evidence, quickly, that you're right for the role. HR staff and hiring managers often spend only 20–40 seconds on a first pass. In that time, titles, companies, dates and concrete results need to stand out. Long paragraphs, graphics and decoration usually slow reading down.
Many companies now use an ATS (applicant tracking system) at the same time. These systems extract text from PDFs and look for keywords and structure. Text embedded in images, complex two-column layouts, or icon-based skill bars can break that parsing. So you need a balance between "nice-looking design" and "readable structure."
Summary and experience bullets
In the top summary, use 3–5 sentences to say who you are, how many years of experience you have, and your 1–2 strongest contributions. Instead of generic adjectives like "team player, solution-oriented," name your field and your outcome. Start experience bullets with an action verb: managed, built, reduced, increased, launched.
Add numbers where you can: percentage, duration, budget, team size, number of customers. "Increased sales" is less convincing than "Grew regional sales by 18% over three quarters." Each bullet should carry one idea; a three-sentence bullet doesn't get read. Trim older, unrelated jobs — focusing on the last 10–15 years is usually enough.
Choosing a template and personal data
For corporate and ATS-heavy applications, a plain, single-column ATS template is safer. A hybrid template can work for roles that call for a portfolio and skills emphasis. European applications may require CEFR language levels and a more structured layout. In a custom design, adjust the section order to fit the role.
Only include fields like date of birth, marital status, photo and Turkish ID number if they're genuinely requested. Unnecessary personal data carries both privacy and discrimination risk. Leaving references as "available on request" is usually sufficient.
PDF output and supporting documents
Download your CV as a PDF that contains real text; screenshot-based PDFs are weak for ATS. Keep the file name clean, like "FirstName-LastName-CV.pdf." If you've added very large images, reduce the size with the PDF-compression tool. If your application package includes a cover letter or portfolio, you can create a single file with the PDF-merge tool when a listing requires one PDF.
The site's free CV builder offers a live A4 preview with ATS-classic, hybrid, European and custom-design layouts. Your information stays in your browser — CV content is never uploaded to a server. That's an extra safeguard, especially for résumés containing personal data.
Pre-submission checklist
Do the listing's keywords appear naturally in your CV? Are the dates consistent? Any typos? Is your contact information current? Does one page / two pages fit the target role? Is the PDF's text selectable? If you can answer yes to these, you're better prepared to submit.
Remember: a CV opens the door, the interview gets the job. Exaggerated claims may grab attention short-term, but they erode trust over time. A short, measurable and honest text is the most sustainable strategy.
